Child care staff and key workers

The Manager of the Nursery, Sandra Warne has been with the Sam Morris Nursery for over 10 years although she has over 12 years experience of working with children.

All staff are qualified with a relevant childcare qualification and are subjected to security vetting before appointment.

Whenever there are children in the building there is a minimum of 2 qualified members of staff present. Throughout the nursery day we adhere to staffing levels recommended in the Children's Act, 1989.

Staffing levels:

  • 0 to 2 year's old 1 worker for every 3 children
  • 2 to 3 year's old 1 worker for every 4 children
  • 3 to 5 year's old 1 worker for every 8 children

At the Sam Morris nursery any unqualified assistants or students will always be working in addition to our qualified core staff and under close supervision. We do support local Colleges and Universities and have students on a regular basis.

A specific member of staff will be given key responsibility for your child offering stability and continuity for both of you. The key worker will settle you and your child in to nursery life and will monitor your child's development to ensure that all areas of social, emotional, physical and intellectual development are being addressed and that your child has achieved a series of personal goals. You will have a review with your child's key worker every 6 months to discuss progress. However you are able to discuss any aspect of your child's development as frequently as you wish. The Manager will also be happy to talk to you and a separate office is available for more private discussions.

“The secure and individualised settling-in routines ensure that children develop secure relationships with all staff and a strong bond with their key person”.
